Proposed Policy on Permission to Conduct Research by Students, Faculty Members and External Researchers

PROPOSED POLICY ON PERMISSION TO CONDUCT RESEARCH BY STUDENTS , FACULTY MEMBERS AND EXTERNAL RESEARCHERS

Since MMC CAST recognizes the importance of Research in an educational institution, we express our support for individuals and groups who have identified our institution as a site for their study. We believe that giving them the opportunity to obtain relevant information from our organization will foster mutual benefit, promote partnership and collaboration.

However, to set matters at hand in proper perspective, certain policies must be set to better guide our institution and requesting parties in conducting individuals from other institutions or external group researches.

POLICY FOR STUDENTS

  • Research, Capstones, Feasibility Studies, Theses, shall follow guidelines and procedures set by the college in the conduct and implementation in recognition of the college’s capacity to determine the technicalities and most appropriate methods and conduct for the studies. IRC will be shall advisory, advisory in function and role. IRC may be called upon to assist the advisers as deemed necessary.
  • An institutional format (health, business, health and industry) shall be prescribed to guide the advisers and students with the standardized format.
  • The respective colleges provides approved copies of titles and proposals to the IRC for records and monitoring purposes
  • For adviser selection and appointment please refer to policy earlier drafted for this.
  • For request for copies of document owned by MMC CAST, a letter of permission must be submitted to IRC, endorsed by the Dean with the following documents attached
    • Proof of approved implementation of research
    • Approved objectives and purposes including the significance of the study
  • IRC shall review ethical matters and concerns of the study and approves and disapproves the request, or recommend revision and alternatives.

POLICY FOR FACULTY MEMBERS (completing Masters and Doctoral degree and other individual research)

  • Faculty writes a letter of permission to IRC with  following attachments
    • Letter of permission noted by the Dean
    • Objectives , purposes of the study
  • IRC reviews the request and ascertain if ethical measures are met, approves, disapproves, suggest recommends revisions and alternatives
  • Upon approval, faculty agrees to provide copy of the completed hardbound research paper to IRC

EXTERNAL RESEARCHERS

  • External researcher, writes a letter of permission to IRC with  following attachments
    • Letter of permission noted by the Dean concerned (ex. If related to Nursing , Dean of College of Nursing will endorse)
    • Objectives , purposes of the study
    • Proof of approval by the Ethical Review Board of the institution where the researcher is connected.
  • IRC reviews the request and ascertain if ethical measures are met, approves, disapproves, suggest recommends revisions and alternatives
  • Upon approval, external researcher provides timeframe and plan particularly in MMC CAST, updates the IRC of the progress of the implementation
  • Upon completion of the entire study, external researcher agrees to provide copy of the completed hardbound research paper to IRC or copy of the publication
